Catherine Ford is a British actress, born in Bloomsbury. After her father's divorce from the household, the actress was raised up by her mother, grandparents, and godparents. Ford was suffering from anxiety disorder caused by words as a young child. Ford began to be attracted to acting as a teenager and joined the National Youth Theatre. After being admitted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School for a short time, Ford decided that this was not the best place for her. Ford was then able to apply for a place at the Central School of Speech and Drama and received an acceptance on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler as a regular character in Doctor Who. Ford was not able to finish her studies in 1993. But, by 1991, Ford had made her first appearance on TV in an episode of Surgical Spirit. At that time, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate was featured in such television shows like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly as well as London Burning. Tate also regularly worked in theatre and eventually joined the Royal Shakespeare Company during its season of 2000-2001. Tate was soon recognized for her stand-up comedies, that were added to her selection in the year 1996.
